Application

Selection process

The selection process consists of 3 stages which aim to assess not only the academic potential of the applicant, but also his / her mental and psychological readiness for education in one of the UWC colleges.

In the first stage, the students send completed application forms that consist of basic personal information and 2 essays, one in Macedonian and the other one in English. The application is reviewed by few members of the National Committee and according to it, a decision is made whether the candidate should be called in the next round. You can find this year’s application, as well as the previous ones on the link "Application" on the right side.

The second stage of the selection process consists of one day (if means are provided, even several days) activities where students have the opportunity to meet the other candidates and the members of the committee. Group discussions are planned, as well as individual interviews and other activities that enable the candidates to express their own ideas and views, as well as their ability to communicate in English.

The third stage of the process (in which only some of the students who participate in the second stage are called) consists of preparation and implementation of a project created by the candidate himself. The project should be an activity that will help the community. An important segment of the project is its large scale, i.e. involvement of other individuals and institutions in the project, as well as sustainability, and in fact, the benefit of the activity after its completion. The committee will not offer projects or ideas and will not provide funding for implementation of the projects. However, the Committee will help the candidates (normally within its opportunities) to realize their ideas and visions. The candidates will have to write a report explaining the project, presenting the steps for its implementation (both successful and unsuccessful), and the further ideas for its improvement.

The final selection is done by the committee on the basis of the candidates' performance in all of the three stages.

Once the selected candidates arrive at the colleges, the 2-year period of support begins. The committee obligates not only to represent the body that selects the students, but also the institution that supports them in all the ways it can during the course of their studying.
